Optimove Clinic · Marylebone & West Kensington, London
Targeted, hands-on soft tissue treatment for muscle pain, tension and injury. Delivered by HCPC-registered physiotherapists following clinical assessment. Two London locations. From £80.83.
Remedial massage is a targeted form of manual therapy focused on releasing muscle tension, reducing pain and restoring normal movement. Unlike relaxation massage, it is a clinical intervention — applied to specific structures identified through physiotherapy assessment, not as a general treatment.
At Optimove Clinic, remedial massage forms part of a broader physiotherapy rehabilitation plan. Your physiotherapist determines the most appropriate techniques for your condition, which may include remedial massage as a primary or supporting intervention. According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, soft tissue manual therapy is a recognised component of evidence-based physiotherapy practice.
Targeting lumbar and thoracic muscle hypertonicity and spasm — one of the most common applications of remedial massage, particularly for persistent or recurrent back pain affecting daily life.
Lower back pain treatment →Releasing tight muscles and restricted tissue in the cervical spine and upper back — particularly effective for tension patterns associated with prolonged sitting, screen use and postural strain.
Neck pain treatment →Addressing soft tissue restriction in the rotator cuff and surrounding musculature to improve shoulder mobility, reduce pain and support functional recovery.
Shoulder pain treatment →Managing acute and chronic muscle soreness, scar tissue and restricted range of motion following sports injury or overuse — integrated into your rehabilitation programme.
Knee & sports injury treatment →Treating postural imbalances and repetitive strain injuries common among desk-based workers, manual labourers and anyone performing repeated movements over extended periods.
Shoulder & upper limb treatment →Addressing muscular contributors to sciatic nerve irritation and referred pain patterns through targeted soft tissue release, as part of a broader physiotherapy plan.
Sciatica treatment →Remedial massage is frequently combined with shockwave therapy, joint mobilisation and therapeutic exercise for complex musculoskeletal presentations. The NHS recognises manual soft tissue therapy as an integral component of physiotherapy-led rehabilitation.
Every session is delivered by a regulated physiotherapist — not a massage therapist or wellness practitioner. Clinical training ensures your treatment targets the right structures for the right reasons.
We identify the cause before treating it. Remedial massage is only recommended where assessment confirms it is the most appropriate intervention for your specific condition — not applied as a default.
Massage is one tool within a complete physiotherapy plan. You also receive exercise prescription, movement advice and any other clinically appropriate interventions to support lasting recovery.
Our focus is on resolving the underlying cause of your symptoms. Progress is tracked and your plan adapts as you improve — not a recurring treatment with no end goal.
Your physiotherapist assesses your symptoms, movement and the underlying cause of your pain. No treatment is applied without a clinical diagnosis.
A personalised plan is created around your diagnosis. If remedial massage is appropriate, your physiotherapist will explain precisely why and what to expect.
Targeted manual techniques are applied to specific areas of tension or dysfunction. The approach is guided by your physiotherapist throughout, with ongoing communication.
You receive exercises, postural and movement guidance to support long-term recovery between sessions. Progress is reviewed and your plan adjusted at each appointment.

Remedial massage is a clinical intervention targeting specific muscles, tendons and soft tissues identified through physiotherapy assessment. It aims to address the underlying cause of pain or dysfunction. Relaxation massage uses gentler techniques for general stress relief. Our remedial massage is provided solely in a clinical context — not as a wellness or relaxation service.
Yes — particularly where back pain is driven by muscular hypertonicity, soft tissue restriction or postural imbalance. NHS physiotherapy guidance recognises manual soft tissue therapy as an effective component of back pain rehabilitation when applied following clinical assessment.
Yes, always. As an HCPC-registered clinic, we do not offer walk-in massage sessions. Your first appointment includes a full clinical assessment to confirm remedial massage is the most appropriate and safe intervention for your specific condition.
This depends on your diagnosis, the chronicity of your symptoms and your rehabilitation goals. Most patients see meaningful improvement within 3–6 sessions. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic timeline following your initial assessment and will review progress at each appointment.
Yes — and it frequently is. Remedial massage works well alongside shockwave therapy, joint mobilisation and therapeutic exercise. Conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain often respond best to a combined approach.
Sessions start from £90 for 30 minutes (Standard), £135 for 45 minutes (Premium) and £180 for 60 minutes (Platinum). Courses of 6 and 12 sessions are available at reduced per-session rates. From £80.83 per session (based on a course of 12 × 30-minute sessions). Courses from £500 qualify for 0% interest instalment payments via PayItMonthly.

Clinical Governance & Regulatory Compliance
Remedial massage at Optimove Clinic is provided as a component of a physiotherapy treatment plan by HCPC-registered Physiotherapists. Our services are exempt from "Special Treatment" licensing under the London Local Authorities Act 1991 because all interventions are administered by, or under the direct supervision of, a Chartered Physiotherapist, are incidental to the practice of physiotherapy, and are performed only following a formal clinical assessment and diagnosis. All treatment is documented within a clinical medical record in full compliance with CSP standards.
